Unfortunately, this week was a short one. It was scorching hot in Omaha, with a heat index of 109 degrees when I walked off the golf course on Thursday evening at 8pm. I have no complaints about the golf course though, as the Club at Indian Creek was in perfect shape and the greens were some of the best we putted on all year.
I opened with a round of 76, where I felt like I was playing well but again was perplexed with my inability to score. I had a few strange breaks with balls air-mailing my target, and I hit some really high-quality shots. My putting had gone cold, but I was proud of how I worked hard on every shot to shoot the best score I could.
We had a quick turn around due to the weather delays, and I didn’t get much sleep that night. When I woke up on Friday morning, I felt like I was just hit by a freight train, and there made the decision to take the next week (Springfield, MO) off. I was planning to try to play 10 events in a row, being just outside the cutoff for the top 25; however, I figured I have 5 events to finish the year (Stonebrae, Portland, and the 3 finals events), where a top 3 in any of them would win me my tour card. I felt that a week at home to rest, tidy up my game, and get back out there would be just what I needed to make that end-of-season push!
It was also fun to visit Eat-Fit-Go again in Omaha, where I first found what Travis and I call “BB’s”… short for Birdie Balls. They are peanut butter protein balls that somehow made it viral on social media when I started making them for myself on the golf course!
I did shoot even par the second round and carded 7 birdies on the positive side!
